Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids occurs due to increased intra-abdominal pressure for any reason, including constipation and excessive strain during bowel movement. It is also common in pregnancy.

Symptoms:

  • Hemorrhaging with stool excretion or after complete excretion in the form of a drop
  • Feeling Pain or burning, difficulty with excretion and ejection of anal mucosa

Causes:

Chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea, excessive strain during bowel movement, prolonged sitting in the toilet, aging, hereditary factors, pregnancy, sedation, low fiber foods, no fruits and vegetables, no fluid/water intake.

Prevention methods:

  • Do not delay the disposal
  • Prolonged sitting and straining is prohibited
  • Sitting and standing for long periods is prohibited
  • Doing Lightweight and regular exercise and activity such as walking
  • It is recommended to have a bowel movement at a certain time of day (after breakfast).

Cure:

Chronic diarrhea or constipation is known to be the most common cause of hemorrhoids. Using water-absorbent laxatives, sitting-baths, ointments and suppositories containing anesthetics and resting to relieve veins and bleeding is recommended by a physician.

In the early stages, treatment can be performed on an outpatient and non-surgical basis, otherwise surgical treatment is performed to remove hemorrhoids.

Postoperative Training:

  • After surgery when you are transferred to the ward, you should not eat anything by mouth; after complete consciousness and in case of having no vomit, liquids can be consumed under supervision of your doctor. If you tolerate liquids, other foods will begin.
  • Sleep sideways, change positions regularly, and each hour lie on your belly for one quarter.
  • When you are allowed to leave the bed, sit on the edge of the bed first and hang your legs and get out of bed if you do not have dizziness.
  • Usually the dressing of ​​surgery area is removed before discharge and a basin containing warm water is provided to sit in, for 10-15 minutes.

Home Care:

  • It is advisable to sit in a warm water bath 3 to 4 times daily from 12 hours after surgery for about 1 to 2 weeks.
  • If you feel defecated, do a bowel movement and after that, wash the anus thoroughly and dry with a soft paper towel.
  • Bleeding after excretion is normal as a drop.
  • Your pain and discomfort during excretion usually goes away within two weeks. During this time, you can take the prescribed painkillers.
  • Take antibiotics prescribed by your doctor on time and completely.
  • Lose weight if you are overweight.
  • If you have a biopsy, you need to show your doctor the result of your tests to continue treatment.
  • Regular visits and follow-up are effective in your recovery.

Diet:

  • To reduce constipation, it is recommended to eat a high-fiber diet (fruits and vegetables).
  • Drink plenty of fluids (8 glasses a day).
  • It is recommended to eat whole grains (such as wholegrain bread), whole grains, vegetables, fruits with skin and nuts.
  • It is recommended to start using wheat bran with a teaspoon a day and gradually increase to 4 to 6 tablespoon.
  • Avoid over-eating sweets, coffee, and chocolate.
  • Avoid eating apples without skin, pomegranate, yogurt and Quince fruit (cause bloating and constipation).
  • Do not use laxatives without doctor’s prescription; use olive oil, plum, fig, herb-Sophia and cold milk to soften the stool.
  • Contact your doctor if you have postoperative complications such as anal bleeding, purulent secretion, fever, and constipation.
