Post Transplant Pregnancy
Women who are eager to have a child, should post-pone it for two years after being transplanted.
After this period of time and before trying to conceive, the following conditions must be met:
- Stability of liver function.
- Proper renal function.
- The dose of immunosuppressive drugs has been stabilized.
- Having normal or controlled blood pressure.
- Consult the related medical team before attempting to conceive. It is recommended that Certican, Cellcept, and Myfortic drugs must be discontinued two months before pregnancy or replaced with another drug. Consumption of these drugs during pregnancy and lactation is prohibited.
Note:
It is important to note that post-transplant pregnancy is one of the most dangerous pregnancies. Immunosuppressive drugs increase the chances of preterm birth and miscarriage. It should be noted that pregnancy, especially in the first and second years after transplantation, is associated with an increased risk of organ transplant rejection. Pregnancy prevention in the first two years should not be neglected in any way.
Anyway, pregnancy and the birth of a healthy child in patients with liver transplantation are possible if done at the right time and under appropriate circumstances, so do not worry for having child. Keep in mind that after delivery, the baby should not use breast milk because the transplant drugs are secreted in that.
In transplanted men, Certican drug should be discontinued four weeks before attempting to conceive under supervision of transplant team.
