Donor Qualifications
- The donor must be the patient’s first-degree relatives.
- The donor must be between 18 to 55 years of age.
- The donor blood type must be compatible with the recipient blood type (Blood type O can donate organ to all blood types and AB blood type can receive an organ from all blood types.).
- The donor should not have specific illnesses such as diabetes, uncontrolled hypertension or liver, kidney, heart, and lung problems.
- The donor should never have had surgery on the related organ.
- Adults can always donate liver to a child, but a child can donate organ to an adult, if only the weight of the donor be at least equal to the weight of the recipient.
- The donor should be healthy in all respects.
If all conditions are met, the donor can be prepared to donate the organ. Being prepare for donation has several steps that each one depends on previous step confirmation.
