Fellowship and observer ship program in Shiraz Transplant Center
Abu-Ali Sina Organ Transplant Center is one of the most equipped and advanced transplant center in the world.
Shiraz Organ transplant activities were started since 1967 in Namazi Hospital (Shiraz, Fars), and concentrated in Abu-Ali Sina Hospital since 2017. Abu-Ali Sina is a pioneer center in performing solid organ transplant surgeries due to the more than 600 liver transplant surgeries and also more than 300 kidney, pancreas, multivisceral and small bowel transplant which are done annually in this center. The first kidney transplant operation surgery was done in 1967 in Namazi Hospital, (Shiraz, Fars) and also, the first liver transplantation from a deceased donor was done in 1993 and living one 1998.
The following transplant surgeries is done in Abu-Ali Sina Center: Ex situ Split Liver TX (since 2003), Pancreas TX (since 2006), In-situ Split Liver TX (since 2007), Multivisceral and Small bowel TX (since 2010), Combined Liver Kidney TX, Combined Liver Pancreas TX, Domino Liver Transplant (since 2014), Complicated Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgeries such as liver and whipple transplantation at the same time for cholangiocarcinoma in addition to Auto liver transplantation (Ex vivo resection of liver mass) and auto small bowel transplantation.
Establishing a coherent deceased donor network would help developing this center performance effectively.
This center has been also known as a fellowship training center by MESOT. Fellows from various Iranian Medical Centers in addition to Middle East, Asian (Sudan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Lebanon and Syria) and also European countries (Russia and etc.) take their fellowship courses of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary and transplant surgeries at this center. It should be noted that, more than 100 transplant specialists including attending and fellowships of transplant surgeries, nephrologists, gastroenterologists, infectionists, Anesthesiologists, Pharmacists, Nutritionists, Radiologists and ICU men are currently working in this center.
According to these, Abu-Ali Sina Organ Transplant Center is a great place for HPB and Transplant surgeries training courses for foreigners whom are willing to attend short-term observership and fellowship courses.
Training courses such as HPB observership courses, transplant surgeries and Anesthesiology take 3 to 6 months, Anesthesiology fellowship program takes at least 18 months and HPB and organ transplant surgeries take 3 years.
